Improving the living conditions of two Reception Centers for Foreigners in Serbia

With the support from the EU, two Reception Centers for Foreigners in Serbia, in Dimitrovgrad and Plandiste, are now better equipped to provide a more functional, humane, and dignified accommodation for a prolonged stay of up to 160 persons at a time.

This has been achieved through high-end, sustainable and environmentally friendly reconstruction works and equipment. The reconstruction works in the accommodation facilities include heating, exterior lighting, storage, air conditioning, improving safety through fire alarms and extinguishing systems, repairing sewage, drainage and watering, furnishing and equipping these two centers with the necessary items and facilities, such as registration container, warehouse containers and the garage space.

Besides the functionality, the quality of accommodation is improved through a multifaceted sports playground for outdoor, recreational activities for migrants, including volleyball posts, a basketball hoop, and an outdoor gym. In addition to the accommodation of irregular migrants, containers for police officers are also in place, enabling efficient, on-the-spot supervision and monitoring of the centers.

The key aspect of renovation is increasing safety and security in the overall area. Building access roads and expanding the existing plots, while installing a double-leaf entrance gate for vehicles and a single-leaf pedestrian gate are also an important part of the works done. The two centers for the reception of foreigners are now a safer and more humane place, renovated to serve its purpose better.
